When you are on GLP-1 treatment, reduced appetite and altered digestion make meal planning more important than ever. Without structure, it is easy to go entire days eating far too little of the nutrients your body needs.
Why planning matters
With less hunger and altered satiety, you can go days eating very little without realizing it. This can lead to nutritional deficiencies, muscle loss, and fatigue, even though the number on the scale is dropping.
The goal is not to eat less, it is to eat better. Every meal needs to count.
Practical meal structure
A framework that works well is to think protein first. At every meal, ask: where is the protein? Then add vegetables or fruits, then grains or starches, then healthy fats.
Example day: breakfast with eggs and avocado; snack with Greek yogurt and walnuts; lunch with chicken, green salad, and sweet potato; snack with fruit and cottage cheese; dinner with fish, brown rice, and vegetables.
Protein in focus
The target of 1.2 to 1.6g per kilogram of body weight per day is easier to hit when you think protein at every meal. If you struggle to eat enough protein from food alone, supplements like whey protein or EAAs can help.
Fiber
Beyond helping with constipation, fiber feeds the gut microbiome and helps regulate blood sugar. Vegetables, fruits, legumes, and whole grains are good sources.
