Caloric deficit is a simple concept in theory: you spend more energy than you consume, and the body uses stored fat to cover the difference. In practice, maintaining a deficit in a sustainable way is one of the hardest parts of any weight loss process. That is where peptide and GLP-1 agonists come in as a tool, and also where the story gets complicated if you do not understand what is happening underneath the numbers.

GLP-1 agonists are effective at creating caloric deficit because they attack hunger directly. They mimic the GLP-1 hormone, which is released by the intestine after eating and sends a satiety signal to the brain. With this hormone acting more strongly, people feel less hungry and naturally eat less. The deficit creates itself without needing to consciously starve.

But the body does not accept this situation without pushing back. When the deficit persists for weeks, metabolism starts to adjust.
